Leadership Development

The Lord has given me the ability to teach and the ability to lead. Teaching leadership is therefore a passion and sweet spot for me. I love the opportunity to teach people how to develop as leaders in ministry. I can offer a range of different approaches including:

360 Reviews

I am a Certified Leadership Agility© 360 Coach, and can work with you to assist your development as an effective and agile leader. The Leadership Agility 360 is a diagnostic and developmental tool that will identify where you are in your leadership development, and enable us to work together on your next steps to becoming a more agile leader.

What is Leadership Agility?

The pace of change in our world is overwhelming, and we need leaders who are able to quickly and skilfully adapt to our VUCA world, a world which is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. We need leaders of agility, who have developed competencies in setting contexts, understanding the needs of multiple stakeholders, with an ability to solve complex problems. And wrapping around that, they need to be leaders who are proactive in self leadership.

Agile leaders are able to lead organisation change, lead change and engage in one on one pivotal conversations. The Leadership Agility tool will allow us to identify your current strengths and growth areas, and then commence a coaching relationship which is focused around your development in specifically agreed areas. Find out more by reading this white paper.

How much does it cost?

Completing the Leadership Agility 360 will cost $AU500. We can work out the cost of subsequent coaching sessions by negotiation. Please contact me to discuss.

1 to 1 Leadership Coaching

Paul Kelly wrote a great song which has the recurring line 'I've done all the dumb things!" And in over 35 years of ministry I am pretty certain I have! Looking back, I am convinced I could have done fewer dumb things if I had've been blessed with a coach to help me.

So my motivation as a personal coach is to walk alongside others to contribute to their growth as healthy, effective and transformational leaders. I am particularly passionate about working in the church planting space, and with those who run not for profit organisations.

Typically, I meet with people about once a month, for an hour or so. I have worked with people all over Australia using Skype or Zoom, and I've found this to be effective.

How much does it cost?

I have a sliding scale of fees, depending on your situation and circumstances. Please contact me to discuss.

“It’s been a great blessing learning from Ed’s wisdom and experience and I’ve valued his input over a challenging and encouraging year or two since we’ve launched CityReach Marion. His coaching, especially the ability to address ‘blind spots’ in character and understanding as well as apply self reflection tools has developed my self leadership and leadership of others. I would certainly recommend our coaching to others, particularly church planters.”

Lawson Hannaford :: Lead Pastor and English Congregation Pastor - CityReach Marion

"Ed and I have been meeting in a coaching relationship for over 2 years now and I have experienced a noticeable positive change in the way I lead, work with people and respond to work challenges. I truly believe that Ed's non-judgemental, genuine approach to leadership coaching has allowed me the safe space I have needed to begin to realise my own potential and build on my capacity as a leader and manager."

Ryan Naoum :: Team Leader - St John's Community Services

"I have been greatly encouraged and helped by Ed’s wisdom and coaching throughout different seasons of ministry in a large church. His pastoral experience, combined with his leadership insight, have made him a valuable part of my own leadership journey."

Keith Baker ::Generations Pastor - St Paul's Castle Hill

Conference Speaking and Workshops

I love teaching on leadership to any size group, big or small. And I love engaging deeply and authentically with the Scriptures about what it means to be a distinctively Christian leader. I have taught for Arrow Leadership Australia, the Salvation Army in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, women in ministry in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, and lots of local churches around Australia.

I am particularly interested in the role of character in Christian leadership and in self care (or as I would prefer to call it 'Soul Care') for leaders. And I love teaching the Bible as well.

I have also taught on a wide range of topics such as:

  • 'A Christian Model of Leadership'
  • 'Effective Organisational Change'
  • 'Realigning to Missional Leadership'
  • 'Leading from the Second Chair'
  • 'The Dark Side of Leadership'
  • 'Working with Teams'

"Ed Vaughan was our guest speaker at a state conference recently and his teaching on leadership was exceptional. He was engaging, relational, practical and well prepared and informed on our context. Highly recommend him as a gifted and experienced teacher."

David Godkin :: Divisional Commander (QLD) - The Salvation Army Australia
